Have you ever looked around your bathroom and thought, “How did I never notice how much plastic there is in here?” I sure have. I realized how every single product I owned was in a huge clunky plastic bottle and I felt awful. From shampoo to toothpaste, there were at least 15 plastic containers crowding my shelves. Needless to say, I’ll never go back. Shampoo bars were one of my first sustainable swaps and I was immediately hooked.
The Facts
Did you know that over a million plastic bottles are purchased around the world every single minute? According to The Guardian, the number of plastic bottles increases every year and while it may seem hopeless, there are things we can all do to prevent the continuation of this cycle. According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, by 2050 there will be more plastic by weight in our oceans than fish. Switching to plastic-free versions of the products we use every day (like shampoo, face wash, and soap) can save the planet from a massive amount of plastic waste.
What’s sooo great about shampoo bars?
There are so many wonderful things about shampoo bars, the best thing probably being that they don’t come in a plastic bottle. Below is a list of great things about shampoo bars:

- No water added
- Very concentrated
- Small condensed bar
- Easy to travel with
If you were feeling on the fence about shampoo bars before, I hope you’ll consider making the switch! There really aren’t any down-sides in my opinion.
Which shampoo bar is best for you?
There are a lot of shampoo bars out there, but not all are created equal. I highly recommend looking for shampoo bars that come from brands and stores that are dedicated to sustainability and reducing plastic. My favorite brand is Unwrapped Life and I buy them from Package Free Shop and I also love the shampoo bars from Plastic Free Pursuit, both of which have completely zero waste shipping. Below is a list of shampoo bars with great reviews and come from shops that are dedicated to shipping in plastic-free packaging.
